Lily AI is a product attribution platform that helps retailers connect shoppers with exactly what they are looking for, using AI to tag over 15,000 customer-driven product attributes across an entire catalog. They needed an explainer video that could take a genuinely complex technology concept and make it land clearly for a retail audience. The brief required full creative ownership from script visualization to final production.
The Design Challenge
Explainer videos for AI and tech platforms have a well-worn formula that audiences have learned to tune out. Floating icons, abstract network animations, a voiceover reading bullet points. Lily AI’s actual product was sophisticated and the stakes for retailers were real, millions in lost revenue from bad product data. The video had to make that problem feel urgent and the solution feel obvious, without ever losing the viewer in technical complexity.
The Solution
The Storyboard: Every frame of the video was designed before production began. The storyboard mapped out the full narrative arc across 22 scenes, from the opening problem statement through to the product demonstration and call to action. Each frame specified composition, motion direction, on-screen text, and the relationship between the visual and the voiceover script running alongside it.
The Final Result
Lily AI had a fully realized explainer video built from a storyboard that left nothing to chance on the day of production. Every scene, every transition, and every visual beat was resolved on paper first. The result was a video that made a complex AI product feel immediately understandable and worth acting on.
