Geocloth makes premium microfiber cleaning cloths for technology glass. What makes them different is what's printed on them: detailed illustrations of iconic landmarks across all fifty US states. Every cloth features eight illustrations from a single state, from national parks and historic buildings to natural wonders and city landmarks. My job was to create those illustrations.
The Design Challenge
These aren’t decorative graphics. They are the product. Someone buys a Nevada cloth because they love Nevada, or a Missouri cloth because the Gateway Arch means something to them. The illustration had to be accurate enough to be recognisable, detailed enough to feel premium, and beautiful enough to sit on a desk or be given as a gift. Every single landmark had its own character, its own light, its own architecture. There was no template to apply. Each one had to be researched and built from scratch.
What I Actually Did
Across the fifty states, I illustrated hundreds of individual landmarks. State Capitols, national parks, bridges, museums, waterfalls, coastlines, desert formations. Places like the Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, the Gateway Arch, Yosemite, Havasu Falls, New River Gorge Bridge. Each illustration had to capture the essence of that specific place in a style that felt consistent across the full collection while still being distinct to the location.
The Final Result
The illustrations are the product. Every cloth sold is one of these images in someone’s hand, on their desk, or wrapped as a gift. The work lives in the real world in a very direct way, and that kept the bar high on every single piece.
